In my recent paintings, videos, drawings and photographs, I make ambiguous imagery with a
quality of being simultaneously blurred and in-focus. I reference the natural and constructed
environments of New York City, especially its beaches and parks, and take close-up photographs
of my everyday surroundings. I work between media, often referencing personal photographs,
videos and sound recordings to create abstract imagery in paint or pencil, then reference those
works to create photo-based digital works. I aim to capture the elusive elements of my references
—the movement and aliveness of the city and of the ocean. These explorations of form, structure
and movement are deeply personal. I seek to connect with something larger than myself by
connecting with the rhythms of my city, my memories of growing up next to the Atlantic Ocean,
and my search for moments where I can be entirely still and open to the vibrant life force around
me.
