BIO
Kiana Honarmand is an Iranian-born Bay Area-based artist whose interdisciplinary work explores cultural identity, women's rights in Iran, and SWANA representation. Her work has been featured in publications such as the Washington Post, Forbes, and Voice of America. Kiana’s art has been exhibited in numerous venues nationally and internationally. These include the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, CA; NUMU New Museum, Los Gatos, CA; Museum of Quilts and Textiles, San Jose, CA; Metal Museum, Memphis, TN; Lite-Haus Galerie, Berlin, Germany; and many others.
My work, shaped by my SWANA background and experience in the US, serves as a platform for investigating the nuances of identity. This exploration takes shape through interdisciplinary works – images, videos, sculptures, and installations – that delve into women's rights violations in Iran and the Western perception of the SWANA identity. Through contrasting materials and the incorporation of text inspired by social issues and feminist movements, my work sparks dialogue on global feminist struggles, aiming to amplify marginalized voices and advocate for social change.
