Monica Carrier (b. 1978 Philadelphia, PA) has exhibited widely including solo exhibitions at A.I.R. Gallery and Thomas Hunter Project Space in NYC and FjellerupIBund & Grund in Denmark. She has been awarded fellowships, residencies and grants from Hunter College, A.I.R. Gallery and Arts@Renaissance. She regularly curates, most recently at PeepSpace, a contemporary gallery that she founded in 2020. Carrier holds a BFA from Tyler School of Art and an MFA from Hunter College.
I find the indignity of motherhood laugh-out-loud funny while being enamored by my children doing homework or scrolling their phones. Usually with ink on paper, I celebrate the absurd alongside the sincere. I love spaces between & pareidolia. I consider the spiritual, hand in hand with the irreverent, often allowing imagery to emerge. Breasts might become eyes or an ink spill may become a queen. I am serious about taking nothing too seriously and am wonderstruck by my everyday life.
