My work centers on materiality especially paint as theme. I play with the physical and structural limits of paint, by utilizing the material as a sculptural element on the canvas itself as well as extension of the canvas itself; essentially, I sculpt with paint. I am especially interested in exploring the fault lines between figuration and abstraction, society and nature, intentionality and randomness, eastern and western, entropy and control, inner and outer space. My years of taking art classes, frequenting art exhibits/museums, as well consuming popular culture (TV, music, film) likely inform my combining traditional painterly techniques with graffiti and calligraphy with assemblage, origami and collage, and throwing it all into a blender. I am as much an art fan as I am am artist.
