BIO
Ryan Frank is a visual artist and woodworker based in Brooklyn, NY. He’s had solo exhibitions at the Invisible Dog Art Center, the Mattatuck Museum, the Children’s Museum of the Arts, Tremaine Gallery and Icehouse Project Space. In 2015 his mobile installation A Wandering Sukkah toured throughout New York City to much acclaim, stopping at venues including the Queens Museum and Bronx Museum. In addition to his art practice Ryan is an ardent runner and practitioner of Tai Chi.
My work consists primarily of photo-based sculpture and installation, using photographs that I shoot and then immerse within found objects, architectural spaces, or vessels of my own creation. Exploring photography’s burgeoning expansiveness, I combine object and imagery, embedding the vastness of landscape within manmade structures such as doors, windows, boxes and other geometric formations. Though it has manifested in many physical and digital forms, much of my work explores and represents place as it is experienced, rather than merely as it is seen.
